West Virginia’s baseball team is gearing up for the NCAA Tucson Regional after a successful run in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. With a pitching staff in need of a reset, the Mountaineers are well-rested and ready to take on Dallas Baptist in the double-elimination tournament. Ace pitcher Derek Clark will be well-rested when he takes the mound for Friday’s opener.
Coach Randy Mazey is confident in his team’s pitching and is optimistic about their chances in the regional. Despite Dallas Baptist not being a big name in Division I athletics, WVU is not underestimating their opponents. Junior shortstop JJ Wetherholt believes that in baseball, anything can happen regardless of school size.
While the team is focused on the regional, Mazey’s son will be competing in the state tournament for Morgantown High School. With potential draft picks on the team, including Wetherholt, the players are determined to make the most of their time on the field. For Wetherholt and others, this may be their last chance to play baseball competitively.
As the Mountaineers embark on their NCAA Tournament journey, they are motivated to play for each other and send off Coach Mazey on a high note. With their eyes set on victory, the team is ready to give it their all and make their mark on the tournament.
