West Virginia quarterback Pat White and running back Steve Slaton were recently named the No. 3 playmaking duo in college football history by 247Sports. Slaton finished fourth in Heisman voting in 2006 with 1,744 rushing yards and 16 scores, while White earned top-10 Heisman finishes in 2007 and 2008. Despite their success in college, neither player had a lengthy NFL career. Slaton played four seasons for two teams after being drafted by the Houston Texans, while White only played two seasons after being drafted by the Miami Dolphins. Slaton is now on the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame ballot. The duo’s impressive performances at West Virginia in the mid-2000s solidified their place in college football history as one of the most underrated and dominant backfield pairings ever.
