A recent study conducted by adult novelty toy brand Joy Love Dolls revealed that South Carolina, despite its conservative reputation, is among the top 10 states in the nation for the swinging lifestyle. The study analyzed Google Trends data over a 12-month period and found that South Carolina has one of the largest populations of swingers in the country, with a monthly search volume of 481 searches per 100,000 people. This places South Carolina in eighth place, just below neighboring North Carolina.
While the study by Joy Love Dolls offers insight into the level of interest in swinging, it does not necessarily indicate actual engagement in the practice. Another study by BedBible.com ranked South Carolina 23rd in the country for swinging, while North Carolina ranked 30th.
Common symbols that may indicate someone is involved in the swinging community include pink flamingos, upside-down pineapples, black rings on the right hand, large mirrors in the home, and hot tubs in the backyard.
Despite the taboo reputation of swinging, many couples in the lifestyle are pushing for acceptance and dispelling myths. Swingers often seek to create friendships with benefits rather than focus solely on sex. It’s important to note that swinging is not a quick fix for a broken relationship, but can add excitement to already stable, honest, and communicative relationships.
While studies on swinging should be taken with a grain of salt, they shed light on the interest and engagement in the lifestyle in different states across the country.
