Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh Killed in Airstrike in Tehran
Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas’s political wing, has been reported killed in an airstrike on his residence in Tehran. It is unclear whether Israel was responsible for the strike. Haniyeh’s death is seen as a significant blow to Hamas during a period of heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly in light of the recent war in Gaza.
Haniyeh, who was 62 years old, had been a prominent figure in Hamas for decades. He began his political career aligning with Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and rose to become an important leader within the organization. He served as a minister in the Palestinian Authority and later became head of the Hamas Political Bureau.
