Businessman Eric Hovde won the Wisconsin Republican primary for the Senate, where he will face Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin in a critical battleground-state race. Baldwin, seeking a third term, has built up a sizable campaign war chest and leveraged her appeal in rural areas, while Hovde, backed by former President Donald Trump, has already lent his campaign $13 million. Baldwin has maintained a financial edge with more than $30 million spent so far, while Hovde’s campaign has spent $13.6 million. Both candidates have been trading barbs in TV ads. Wisconsin voters also rejected two proposed constitutional amendments.
In Minnesota, Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar won her primary in the 5th District, while GOP Rep. Michelle Fischbach won in the 7th District. In the battleground 2nd District, Democratic Rep. Angie Craig will face Marine veteran Joe Teirab, who had Trump’s endorsement. In the Senate race, former NBA player Royce White won the Republican primary to take on Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
In Connecticut, Democratic Rep. Jahana Hayes will face Republican former state Sen. George Logan in the 5th District, while Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy will face Republican bar owner Matthew Corey in the general election. In Vermont, Republican Gov. Phil Scott and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders are expected to win re-election in the general election.
