A 30-meter long Ukrainian flag was unfurled outside the European Commission building in Brussels to commemorate the country’s State Flag Day. The ceremony, attended by representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament, diplomatic corps, and Ukrainians in traditional dress, highlighted the solidarity and support for Ukraine.
European Parliament Vice-President Sophie Wilmès expressed the Parliament’s unwavering support for Ukraine, emphasizing the courage displayed by Ukrainians in the face of ongoing challenges. EU Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton condemned Russia’s missile and drone attacks on civilian populations and reiterated the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine through the Joint Security Commitment signed in June.
As Ukraine celebrated Independence Day on August 24, the Ukrainian flag was prominently displayed in Brussels, with the Station Europe visitors centre and European Commission building illuminated in the national colors. The symbolism of the Ukrainian flag as a representation of freedom and resistance against aggression was emphasized, with the European Commission affirming its continuous support for Ukraine during and after the conflict.
