A 35-year-old Moroccan man, known to Italian police for a knife attack in France and considered a danger internationally, was deported from Italy for crimes against people and property. The man had recently been arrested for serious offences in Italy, including a robbery knife attack in Lucca that left three people injured, one with permanent facial deformities. He was under constant monitoring by anti-terrorism investigators following the attack in France where he shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’. After his appeal was rejected and immigration authorities refused to renew his residence permit, he was deported with direct accompaniment to Casablanca by specialized State Police personnel. Italian authorities have previously deported individuals to Morocco for various crimes, including cybercrimes and connections to terrorist groups. In this case, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi confirmed the deportation on social media, highlighting reasons of state security for the decision. Moroccan imam M.G. was also expelled in 2020 due to his support for the Islamic State group. The deportation of the Moroccan man from Italy is part of the country’s efforts to address security threats and protect its citizens from potential harm.
