Ukraine launched an overnight drone attack targeting Moscow and several other Russian regions, according to Russian officials. At least 12 drones were destroyed over the border region of Bryansk, with two downed over the Kursk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is pressuring the US to allow Kyiv to strike military targets deep inside Russian territory after a meeting with senior US officials. Zelenskiy said the attacks could only be stopped by hitting Russian military airfields and bases.
In response to Russian aggression, Russia has bombed a village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, killing two women and injuring 10 others. In Donetsk, five men were killed in a Russian shelling attack. A day of mourning was declared in Kharkiv after seven people, including a 14-year-old girl, were killed in a Russian strike. Meanwhile, Russian forces have gained control of the Kirove settlement in Donetsk.
Ukraine claimed to have shot down 24 out of 52 drones launched by Russia, with no reports of injuries or damage. The US has decided against deploying American contractors to Ukraine to maintain western military equipment. Discontent towards Vladimir Putin is growing as Ukraine continues its incursion into the Kursk region, capturing territory and settlements. Nato believes it could “overwhelm” Russia, with Lithuania’s foreign minister saying that the invasion was not surprising but the ferocity was shocking to the Baltics.
