Condolences poured in from the White House, members of Congress, and political campaigns following the recovery of the bodies of six hostages, including American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, by the Israeli Defense Forces. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris expressed devastation and outrage, vowing that Hamas leaders will pay for the crimes. Former President Donald Trump blamed the deaths on Biden and Harris. Members of Congress also condemned Hamas and called for the release of all hostages. There were calls for Israel to finish the job to end Iran-backed terror. World leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, called for an end to the war, expressing shock and grief over the deaths of the hostages. The situation highlighted the urgency of a ceasefire to bring the hostages safely home and prevent further loss of innocent lives. Negotiations for a ceasefire proposal to secure the release of the hostages have not been successful. The deaths of over 1,200 people in Israel during the terrorist attack on Oct. 7 underscored the need for immediate action to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.
