First all-civilian spacewalk likely in SpaceX’s private mission launch

A SpaceX capsule carrying four private citizens, including billionaire Jared Isaacman, launched on a five-day mission called Polaris Dawn from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission aims to reach an altitude of 870 miles above Earth, higher than the International Space Station, to test new spacesuits and technologies for future moon and Mars missions. The crew includes Isaacman, a retired Air Force Lt. Col., and two SpaceX engineers. The mission includes an all-civilian spacewalk, which will mark a historic moment in space exploration. The Crew Dragon capsule will pass through the Van Allen radiation belt, providing valuable data on space radiation effects. This mission is part of the Polaris program, a series of spaceflights funded by Isaacman in partnership with SpaceX to explore beyond Earth’s orbit, with potential missions to the moon and Mars in the future.
