Ahmad Alissa, the man who killed 10 people at a Boulder supermarket in 2021, was found guilty on all 55 charges, including 10 counts of first-degree murder. The jury rejected his insanity defense, and he is likely to be sentenced to life in prison without parole. The verdict was reached after about six hours of deliberation. Alissa’s defense team argued for not guilty by diminished capacity due to schizophrenia, but the prosecution showed that he knew right from wrong leading up to the attack. Alissa was arrested at the scene after being shot by police. Officer Eric Talley, who was killed in the shooting, was the first to arrive at the scene. The victims were remembered fondly by their loved ones during the sentencing phase. One victim’s sister described the impact of losing her brother, stating that their household is now missing an essential element. The sentencing phase of the trial is ongoing, and this story is still developing. Please check back for updates.
