The Secret Service is increasing security around former President Donald Trump following recent events, including an apparent assassination attempt at his golf course in Florida. Ryan Wesley Routh, who was charged in connection with the attempt, dropped off a letter declaring it as such. Trump was also shot in the ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania two months prior. Security measures were visibly heightened as Trump arrived in Pennsylvania, with a Secret Service agent closely following him. Trump plans to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a campaign event on Oct. 5, just one month before Election Day. In response to the incidents, the House unanimously voted to enhance protection for all presidential candidates, granting them the same level of security as presidents. Routh, who remains in custody, was found to have dropped off a box containing the letter, phones, ammunition, and other notes at a civilian’s residence. The new security measures aim to ensure the safety of not only Trump but all presidential candidates in the upcoming election.
