Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s commitment to striking Hezbollah “with full force” until all goals are achieved, particularly the safe return of residents in the north. This statement came as he landed in New York for the UN General Assembly meeting. The US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, warned against the devastating consequences of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah and urged both sides to consider proposals for a 21-day ceasefire.
Israel also secured an $8.7 billion US aid package to support their military efforts and maintain a qualitative military edge in the region. This aid includes funds for essential wartime procurement and air defense systems. Meanwhile, the international community, led by the US, is calling for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah to bring about a longer-lasting diplomatic resolution.
Recent Israeli airstrikes in Beirut targeted Hezbollah’s air force unit commander, Mohammad Surur, and resulted in casualties. Despite growing calls for a ceasefire, Israel shows no intention of halting its military operations, with the IDF continuing to target Hezbollah in Lebanon. The escalating conflict has raised concerns about the risk of all-out war and the need for diplomatic solutions to prevent further devastation in the region.
