Tropical Storm Milton formed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, quickly intensifying just hours after becoming a tropical depression. Forecasted to strengthen into a hurricane, it poses a threat to Florida’s west coast next week. Maximum sustained winds are currently 40 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane and storm surge watches are likely to be issued for certain areas on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is expected to impact Florida ahead of the storm’s arrival, increasing the risk of flooding. Pinellas County is preparing for potential impacts by offering sandbags to residents.
The system is also expected to bring rainfall to the northern Yucatán Peninsula and western Cuba. The National Hurricane Center is urging residents in these areas, as well as in the Florida Peninsula, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas, to closely monitor the storm for potential impacts. The timing and exact path of the storm’s impact on Pinellas County are still uncertain. However, residents are advised to stay informed and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
