Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested in Florida by U.S. Marshals on a charge of murder for hire. He is being held without bail in Broward County and has not commented on the charges. Five individuals associated with his hip hop collective, “Only the Family,” were also arrested in California in connection with a murder for hire that resulted in a death. The indictment alleges that members of the group were seeking revenge for the death of a fellow member. Lil Durk is the founder of OTF and produces hip hop music primarily from Chicago artists.
The charges stem from an incident in November 2020 where a high-ranking OTF member was killed during a fight at a nightclub in Atlanta. After the murder, a bounty was allegedly placed on the individual responsible for the death, leading to a planned attack in Los Angeles in August 2022. The attack resulted in the death of a passenger in the intended target’s vehicle. The five men involved in the incident are facing charges of conspiracy, use of interstate facilities to commit murder for hire, possession of firearms, and other related crimes.
The indictment alleges that the men used various means of communication and transportation to carry out the murder, including private jets, cars, cell phones, and the internet. Grant, one of the individuals involved, allegedly provided weapons and supplies for the attack. It is unclear if the men have legal representation at this time.
