West Virginia University’s rowing team kicked off their fall season at the prestigious Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia over the weekend. The event, which is one of the largest regattas in the country, attracted over 6,500 athletes from across the United States.
The Mountaineers had a successful showing at the regatta, with both the Varsity 8 and Novice 8 boats putting in strong performances. The Varsity 8 boat finished in the top 10 out of 27 teams, while the Novice 8 boat finished in the top 15 out of 26 teams. Coaches and teammates were impressed with the team’s performance and saw it as a positive start to the season.
Head Coach Jimmy King was pleased with the team’s performance, noting that it was a good opportunity for the rowers to see where they stand against some of the best competition in the country. He was especially proud of the Novice 8 boat, which was comprised of mostly first-year rowers who showed great potential for the future.
The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta is known for its challenging course, which features tight turns and narrow passages along the Schuylkill River. The Mountaineers navigated the course with skill and determination, showcasing their physical and mental toughness.
