Las Vegas police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old father, Brandon Durham, who had called 911 for help during a home break-in. Durham reported that two people were shooting outside his home and trying to break in while he was inside with his daughter. Upon arrival, officers saw damage to the home and vehicles. Body camera footage showed an officer firing on Durham and a suspect, resulting in Durham’s death. The suspect, Alejandra Boudreaux, was arrested and is facing multiple charges. Police believe the incident was targeted and not random. Boudreaux allegedly broke into the home to provoke a police response, known as “suicide by cop.” The officer’s use of force is being reviewed based on the standard set by the Supreme Court’s decision in Graham v. Connor. Durham’s daughter expressed anger towards the police department for her father’s death, describing him as extremely angry and violent. The investigation is ongoing, and individuals in crisis can contact the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for support.
