ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan has filed applications for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, and other high-ranking officials, as well as Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other key figures. The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for alleged architect of a terror attack, Deif, who was accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
The court also launched an investigation into possible war crimes committed by both Israel and Palestinian militants dating back to the 2014 Israel-Hamas conflict. Netanyahu has criticized Khan as a “rogue prosecutor” targeting Israel. Israeli officials, including President Isaac Herzog, condemned the arrest warrants, calling it a “dark day for justice” and “a dark day for humanity.”
However, human rights advocates, including Kenneth Roth, former executive director of Human Rights Watch, welcomed the decision as a step forward in seeking justice for Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Roth emphasized that all 125 members of the International Criminal Court are now obligated to arrest Netanyahu and Gallant if they enter their territories. He also called on governments providing military support to Israel, such as the U.S., to reconsider their actions, warning that they could be charged with aiding and abetting the crimes committed.
