High school football playoffs in West Virginia are back on this weekend following a ruling from the West Virginia Supreme Court. The court overturned injunctions issued by two circuit courts, affirming the authority of the WVSSAC to oversee and implement rules for interscholastic athletics. The playoff fields and matchups will be determined by the point system used during the regular season.
The Class AAAA matchups include Parkersburg vs. Martinsburg, Hedgesville vs. Spring Mills, Cabell Midland vs. Jefferson, Musselman vs. Wheeling Park, University vs. Huntington, George Washington vs. Hurricane, Woodrow Wilson vs. Morgantown, and Washington vs. Parkersburg South.
In Class AAA, the games will feature Hampshire vs. Princeton, Point Pleasant vs. Fairmont Senior, Robert C. Byrd vs. Bridgeport, Elkins vs. Herbert Hoover, Lewis County vs. Oak Hill, Shady Spring vs. Nitro, East Fairmont vs. Spring Valley, and Ripley vs. North Marion.
Class AA matchups include Westside vs. Frankfort, Chapmanville vs. Roane County, James Monroe vs. Independence, Moorefield vs. Williamstown, Nicholas County vs. Wheeling Central Catholic, Clay County vs. Philip Barbour, Wayne vs. Scott, and South Harrison vs. Bluefield.
In Class A, the matchups are Tolsia vs. Tug Valley, East Hardy vs. Tucker County, Madonna vs. Wahama, Valley Wetzel vs. Cameron, Wirt County vs. Doddridge County, Tyler Consolidated vs. Sherman, Meadow Bridge vs. Pendleton County, and River View vs. Petersburg.
