High School Sports: West Virginia High School Playoffs Return

The West Virginia high school playoffs are set to resume this week after the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (SSAC) in a case involving the implementation of the ratings points system. The SSAC confirmed the news in a press release, announcing that the playoffs will proceed as scheduled. The playoffs had been postponed since last Tuesday, but will now take place on Friday and Saturday.

All three Marion County high schools in Class AAA remain in playoff contention, with matchups announced shortly. Other area teams, such as Woodrow Wilson and Oak Hill, will face different opponents than previously announced due to the court ruling. Westside High in Wyoming County, who had originally been told they would be going to the postseason, will now be the No. 16 seed in Class AA and play against No. 1 Frankfort.

The ruling affects several matchups in various classes, with teams like Shady Spring and Nicholas County experiencing changes in their opponents. Meadow Bridge in Class A will now face Pendleton County instead of Cameron. The playoffs will see games taking place on Friday and Saturday with kickoff times at 7 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Overall, the high school playoffs in West Virginia are back on track thanks to the Supreme Court of Appeals decision in favor of the SSAC.
