Local artists showcase their talents in a stunning exhibit at the Guam Museum titled “Ginen Hålom” or “From Within”. The exhibit features over 90 pieces from 22 different artists, ranging from ultra-realistic to abstract interpretations. Visitors can view and purchase the artwork until December 27, with prices ranging from several hundred to several thousand dollars. Proceeds from the sales will support the artists and the Guam Museum Foundation.
The exhibit has received positive feedback from both visitors and artists. The high ceilings, walls, and lighting in the space enhance the presentation of each piece, allowing viewers to engage with the work meaningfully. Dawn Lees Reyes, curator of the exhibition, emphasizes that the artists draw inspiration from external sources such as nature and culture, but also look “from within” to express their feelings and perceptions through their art.
Roseann M. Jones, dean of the University of Guam’s School of Business and Public Administration, was drawn to a vibrant abstract painting by artist Sarah Johnson. She described the painting as representing opportunities with a brightness behind it. Other artists featured include Rubyjane Buhain-Redila, who showcased paintings depicting her Philippine cultural heritage, and her son Jay Redila, who displayed digitally created pieces.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be on display during the museum’s normal operating hours from Tuesday to Friday, with additional hours on Saturday. The showcase of local talent in one room makes this exhibition a must-see for art enthusiasts.
