Dave McCormick wins Pennsylvania Senate race as Bob Casey concedes

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., conceded the race for Pennsylvania’s Senate seat to Republican opponent Dave McCormick, with a recount triggered due to slim margins. Though NBC News has not yet projected a winner, McCormick declared victory earlier this month after The Associated Press called the race for him. The final results are expected to be released on Wednesday. With 99.8% of expected votes counted, McCormick leads with 48.8% compared to Casey’s 48.6%, with a margin of just over 16,000 votes separating the two candidates. McCormick thanked Casey for his dedication to bettering Pennsylvania. If McCormick’s win is confirmed, it will further pad the Republican majority in the Senate, making it easier for President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks to be confirmed. Republicans will control the White House and both the House and Senate starting in January. Casey had held out hope as ballots were counted but ultimately called McCormick to congratulate him on his election to the Senate. The race has garnered attention as it could impact the balance of power in Congress moving forward.
