The remains of a car that exploded in Sevastopol, killing a Russian naval officer, have raised concerns about Russia’s actions, particularly after the country used a new experimental hypersonic missile in an attack on Dnipro, central Ukraine. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky warned that this escalation shows Russia’s lack of interest in peace. The missile, with a range of over 3,400 miles, was fired from Russia’s Astrakhan region and can carry nuclear warheads. Nato and Ukraine plan to discuss Moscow’s use of the missile in Brussels next week.
The incident has sparked fears of a potential nuclear war, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un also warning of the increasing risk of conflict on the Korean Peninsula due to aggressive moves from the US. Meanwhile, a Russian drone attack on Sumy, northeastern Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 12 others, causing significant damage to buildings and vehicles.
The Pentagon confirmed that Russia used an intermediate-range missile in the attack, based on the design of the country’s longer-range ICBM missile. The missile, which could be refitted with different warheads, traveled at 10 times the speed of sound, making it difficult to intercept. The use of such advanced weaponry has raised concerns about the potential impact of Putin’s actions on global security and the need for a strong response to ensure peace.
