Passengers at London Gatwick Airport evacuated from terminal due to ‘security incident’

London Gatwick airport evacuated part of its south terminal due to a security incident involving a suspected prohibited item found in a passenger’s luggage. The incident prompted a response from Sussex Police and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team. The airport was reopened after the package was deemed safe and two detained individuals were allowed to continue their journeys. However, delays and cancellations were expected. The airport emphasized that the safety and security of passengers and staff remain a top priority. Pictures and videos shared on social media showed large crowds outside the terminal during the closure. In a separate incident, a road outside the U.S. Embassy in London was closed after a suspicious package was found. Authorities were investigating the package with caution.
