West Virginia Volleyball Faces BYU in Key Matchup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (8-18, 2-13 Big 12) is set to continue its road slate with a challenging match against No. 24 BYU on November 23 at 3 p.m. ET. The game will take place at the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah, and will be available for live viewing on ESPN+, with live stats provided on WVUsports.com.

This match marks the fourth encounter between the Mountaineers and the Cougars, with BYU leading the series 3-0, including a recent victory of 3-0 in Morgantown on November 22, 2023.

In their last outing, West Virginia faced off against No. 19 Utah, suffering a 3-0 defeat on November 21 in Salt Lake City. Junior middle blocker Laila Ibrahim stood out for the Mountaineers, recording seven kills and five blocks, with a hitting percentage of .333. Senior outside hitter Hailey Green led the team in kills, adding eight to her tally.

Notably, West Virginia ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 155 service aces across 102 sets, averaging 1.52 aces per set. Redshirt junior outside hitter Cassidy Tanton stands eighth in the conference for her 34 aces this season.

Defensively, Ibrahim and graduate student libero Sydney Reed have made significant contributions, ranking tenth in blocks and digs, respectively, with averages of 1.09 blocks and 3.59 digs per set.

BYU, under the guidance of head coach Heather Olmstead in her tenth season, holds a record of 254-44, entering this match with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-6 mark in conference play after a recent 3-2 loss to Cincinnati.
