Local man from Wellsburg recognized for contributions to wrestling


Chris Diserio, a Wellsburg man, was recently recognized by the West Virginia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his lifetime of service to the sport. He was presented with the Lifetime Service Award at an induction ceremony on October 27, alongside past recipients Mike Stalnaker and Ray Marling. Diserio has dedicated 38 years to officiating high school wrestling competitions, including the West Virginia State Wrestling Championship and Winner’s Choice Wrestling Championships. He has also been involved in numerous other tournaments and events, earning recognition as West Virginia State Wrestling Official of the Year in 2007. Diserio’s passion for wrestling was inspired by his high school coach Merle Tournay at Brooke High School, where he graduated in 1982. In addition to his officiating career, Diserio is a retired United Parcel Service employee. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame, based in Stillwater, Oklahoma, aims to honor the sport of wrestling, celebrate exceptional achievements, and encourage future generations to participate in the sport. Diserio’s dedication and contributions to wrestling in West Virginia have earned him this prestigious recognition from his peers in the wrestling community.
