Russell Vought, co-author of Project 2025, chosen by Trump to head budget office

President-elect Donald Trump has named Russell Vought, a former platform policy director for the Republican National Committee and co-author of Project 2025, as his pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Trump praised Vought for being an aggressive cost-cutter and deregulator who will implement the America First Agenda. Vought himself expressed his gratitude for the nomination on social media.

Vought, in his chapter for Project 2025, emphasized the importance of setting fiscal goals early in the budget development process to address federal government spending. In interviews, he advocated for the president to take control of government agencies to combat what he referred to as the “woke and weaponized bureaucracy.”

Despite distancing from Project 2025 during the campaign, Trump has nominated several individuals associated with the initiative for key positions in his administration. If confirmed by the Senate, Vought will oversee budgetary matters and the execution of Trump’s policies across executive departments.

Alongside Vought, Trump announced other key Cabinet picks, including Scott Turner for housing and urban development secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer for labor secretary, and Marty Makary for FDA commissioner. Sebastian Gorka, a former aide, was also appointed as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism. Trump praised Vought as a transformative pick for the budget office, noting his track record in dismantling what he refers to as the “deep state.”
