Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire that will come into effect at midnight on November 27. The ceasefire was approved by Israel’s Security Cabinet and is aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the ceasefire was agreed upon to focus on the Iranian threat, give Israeli forces a break, and isolate Hamas, another Iran-backed militant group. The United States and France have played a role in facilitating the peace agreement.
The ceasefire agreement includes commitments from both Israel and Lebanon, such as refraining from offensive military operations, dismantling unauthorized weapons production facilities, and deploying official security forces along the borders. Israel will gradually withdraw from certain areas within 60 days, and negotiations will take place to establish recognized land borders between the two countries.
The ceasefire comes after months of conflict that have caused significant destruction and loss of life in the region. Prime Minister Netanyahu has warned that Israel will respond forcefully if Hezbollah violates the agreement. This ceasefire is seen as a step towards peace in the volatile region of West Asia, with hopes for a lasting resolution to the ongoing conflict.
