Coach Sean Cleary and senior Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia University cross country team were honored as the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach and Women’s Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Poll. This recognition came after the team’s victory at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, where McCabe also broke a 10-year course record. The team finished second at the NCAA Championships, with McCabe leading the squad. Freshman Joy Naukot and redshirt senior Sarah Tait also earned First Team All-America accolades.
This regional win marked the first for West Virginia since 2008. Cleary received his fifth regional coach of the year honor, while McCabe became the only Mountaineer to be named the NCAA All-Mid Atlantic Women’s Athlete of the Year. The team’s success at both the regional and national level showcases their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
