Bluefield Board of Directors has approved a contract with consulting firm CTL Engineering to develop plans for a public safety complex in the city. The complex will serve as a police station, fire station, and rescue squad location. Bluefield is partnering with the Bluefield Rescue Squad to fund the project, with the rescue squad covering 50% of the initial cost. The city is in need of new facilities as both the fire department and police department have outgrown their current space at the Bluefield Municipal Building. The city has not yet selected a site for the complex but is considering both city-owned and private properties. Once the plan is finalized, the city will seek outside funding to support the project. The goal is to create a responsive and beneficial facility that meets the needs of the citizens and improves property values in the surrounding area. The current fire and police stations are in need of upgrades, and the public safety complex project aims to address these issues and provide a modern facility for first responders.
