Officials at Alabama A&M issued an apology for incorrectly announcing the death of football player Medrick Burnett Jr. The school initially stated that the 20-year-old had passed away, but later learned that he was in stable condition. Burnett was seriously injured during a game last month and has been in the hospital since then. His family said he had brain bleeds and swelling, and had to undergo a craniotomy to try to save his life. Burnett’s family was unable to be reached for comment by NBC News. The redshirt freshman linebacker was injured during a game against Alabama State in October. He transferred to Alabama A&M from Grambling and has played in seven games this season. The team has one more game left this season against Florida A&M. The school expressed regret for the misinformation and said they were grateful that Burnett was still alive.
