Republican Riley Moore, a member of a prominent West Virginia political family, is set to represent the state in Congress in the upcoming term. Coming from a lineage of politicians, including his aunt Sen. Shelley Moore Capito and grandfather Gov. Arch Alfred Moore Jr., Moore is familiar with the needs and challenges facing the state. He ran for office to fight for issues such as globalization, unfair trade, the opioid crisis, and immigration, hoping to make a positive impact on his constituents.
Having served as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and the state treasurer, Moore brings valuable experience to Congress. He won his seat in the House representing West Virginia’s Second Congressional District, following outgoing Rep. Alex Mooney, who ran for Senate. Moore credits Mooney with providing advice during the transition period.
As one of 30 new Republican members of the 119th Congress, Moore has already formed alliances with fellow representatives in pursuit of enacting President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda. He plans to join caucuses aligned with West Virginia’s interests, such as those focusing on anti-abortion, the Second Amendment, and coal. While he is undecided on specific committees, he is interested in potentially serving on the House Financial Services Committee.
With a focus on bringing back jobs to the U.S. and combating what he sees as a problematic “woke left culture,” Moore is eager to work towards addressing the country’s challenges and contributing to progress in the upcoming term. He sees the election results as a mandate to come together as a party and make meaningful changes for the benefit of the nation.
