Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued threats of strikes on key government facilities in Kyiv using Moscow’s new intermediate-range ballistic missile. He boasted about Russia’s advanced missile systems and vowed to respond to Ukraine’s use of Western missiles. Recent Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have left one million people without power. In a separate speech, Putin warned that Russia would use all weapons at its disposal if Ukraine were to acquire nuclear weapons.
Ukraine has reported 12 Russian strikes on its fuel and energy infrastructure in an overnight aerial attack, with 79 Russian missiles being shot down. Additionally, the Ukrainian prosecutor general has accused Russian forces of killing five captured Ukrainian prisoners of war.
In response to the escalating conflict, Germany has offered to redeploy Patriot air defence missiles to Poland to protect a crucial logistical hub necessary for delivering materials to Ukraine. This comes as senior Russian and Ukrainian officials have agreed to return nine children to each other’s countries following mediation by Qatar.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has spoken with British opposition leader Keir Starmer about Russian air attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, expressing appreciation for UK support and discussing defense cooperation. In addition, former US President Donald Trump has appointed retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg as a special envoy for the conflict to help resolve the war in Ukraine.
