Louisville and West Virginia are set to face off in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in Paradise Island, Bahamas after both teams posted upsets on Wednesday. Louisville stunned No. 14 Indiana with an 89-61 victory, while West Virginia took down No. 3 Gonzaga 86-78 in overtime. West Virginia’s Javon Small led the way with 31 points, helping his team shoot 41.3 percent from the field and sink 23 of 26 free throws. However, the Mountaineers may face depth concerns as only three players were used off the bench in the opening round.
Louisville coach Pat Kelsey praised his team’s defensive effort, with players like Noah Waterman and Chucky Hepburn each scoring 16 points in the victory. The win was the first time the Cardinals had defeated a ranked opponent since January 2021. Both teams are looking to build on their momentum going into the semifinals, with West Virginia making their first visit to the Bahamas for regular-season games after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled their 2020 trip.
