A worker in Wellesley, Massachusetts was seriously injured when he received an electric shock while hanging Christmas lights on a tree. The 22-year-old man, who works for NZ Power Wash in Framingham, was using a 34-foot pole to hang the lights when it came close to an electrical line, giving him a shock. He collapsed and was found unconscious and not breathing by a coworker who called 911. Police arrived at the scene and used an automated external defibrillator to get his heart beating. He was rushed to Newton Wellesley Hospital and then to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The man’s coworker declined to comment on the incident, but mentioned that the man is recovering in the hospital. OSHA, along with the local police and the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant, are investigating the incident to determine what happened. The Wellesley Police, Fire, and WMLP Departments extended their thoughts and prayers to the victim and his family during this tragic incident. Officer Tim Gover stated that the man took a big hit and would be lucky to survive. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of working with electricity and the importance of taking precautions while working with electrical lines.
