Debbie Nelson, the mother of rapper Eminem, passed away at 69 after battling lung cancer. Despite a strained relationship with her son, highlighted in his early music accusing her of drug abuse and neglect, Nelson filed a successful defamation lawsuit against Eminem in 1999. She published a book in 2008, “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem,” to defend herself against the allegations made in his songs. In an interview, Nelson clarified that she did not intend to sue her son but did so to prevent the repossession of her home where Eminem and his wife were living at the time. Eminem’s representative did not provide additional comments on her passing. Nelson’s death marks the end of a complex relationship between a mother and her famous son, characterized by public disputes and efforts to set the record straight on their past.
