Chosen Mountaineers to Participate in U.S. Open Championships


West Virginia University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are gearing up to compete at the 2024 Toyota United States Open Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina from Dec. 4-7. The meet will kick off with the 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. EST, followed by prelims starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday-Saturday and finals each night at 6 p.m.

The Mountaineers will be sending a strong contingent of athletes including Danny Berlitz, Braden Osborn, Roanoke Shirk, and Gabriela Martin, among others, to represent West Virginia at the championships. Previously, the WVU men’s swimming and diving team placed second behind Navy at the WVU Invitational, while the women’s team finished fourth.

The schedule for the championships includes events like the 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 Freestyle on Thursday, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, and 200 Freestyle on Friday, and 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, and 200 Breaststroke on Saturday.

Supporters are encouraged to contribute to the Swimming & Diving Sport Enhancement Fund to help improve the experience for student-athletes and coaches. Donations are used for equipment purchases, team travel, recruiting costs, and other operational expenses.
