Outgoing US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Nato headquarters in Brussels for the last time, pledging to continue supporting Ukraine with arms until January 20. The Biden administration is rushing $725m in military equipment to Ukraine to bolster their defenses against a possible Russian invasion before Donald Trump takes office. Ukraine has been pushing for Nato membership as a security guarantee, but no decision was made during a recent meeting of foreign ministers. Russia’s ambassador to the UN accused Ukrainian intelligence of aiding rebels in Syria, while Ukraine blamed Russia and Iran for the recent escalation of fighting in the country. A report by Yale’s School of Public Health revealed a Kremlin-funded program that took Ukrainian children to Russia, stripped them of their identity, and placed them with Russian families. The international criminal court issued arrest warrants for Putin and his child rights’ commissioner for alleged war crimes related to this program. Blinken reassured Nato allies of US support until the transition of power, emphasizing the importance of maintaining unity and preparing for future challenges.
