The latest MetroNews West Virginia Poll has revealed solid leads for Republican candidates Jim Justice and Patrick Morrisey in statewide elected positions. Justice is leading his Democratic opponent for U.S. Senate, Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott, by a margin of 62% to 28%, while Morrisey leads his Democratic opponent for governor, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams, by 49% to 35%. Both candidates are currently in the lead as the election approaches.
The polling conducted among registered voters likely to vote in the upcoming general election also showed favorable ratings for Justice and Morrisey. Justice is regarded favorably by 57% of respondents while 32% view him unfavorably. Morrisey’s ratings were more evenly split, with 41% viewing him favorably, 35% unfavorably, and 25% unsure.
Regarding the presidential race, the poll indicated that former President Donald Trump holds a significant lead over Vice President Kamala Harris among likely West Virginia voters, with a margin of 61% to 34%. Trump has historically performed well in West Virginia, winning the state by wide margins in both the 2016 and 2020 elections.
