When and How to Watch: Start Time, How to Watch, and Key Details

The Christmas season kicked off with the tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center in New York City, hosted by Kelly Clarkson. The live event will be broadcast on NBC and streaming on Peacock. Performers include the Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Hudson, and more. The tree, a 74-foot Norway spruce from Massachusetts, will be adorned with over 50,000 multicolor LED lights and a Swarovski star. After the holidays, the tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity for building homes. The tradition began in 1931 and has included televised ceremonies since 1951. After the event, the tree will be lit daily until mid-January, 24 hours on Christmas Eve, and until 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Those attending in person can buy tickets for photo opportunities and VIP access. The weather is forecasted to be cold with a chance of showers and snow. The event will also include performances by the Radio City Rockettes and NBC News anchors. Spanish-speaking viewers can watch on Telemundo. The tree was planted in 1967 by Earl Albert, in honor of his late wife Leslie, and will be the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree until 2024. The tree lighting ceremony has been a staple of the Christmas season in New York City for nearly a century.
