Erik Pauze has been the head gardener at Rockefeller Center since 1995, and he is responsible for selecting the perfect tree for the plaza each year. Pauze looks for a Norway spruce that is at least 70 feet tall and 40 to 42 feet wide, with a full, green shape that can support decorations. He begins the search for the tree well in advance, often thinking about trees for future years as well. Pauze found this year’s tree in July 2020, when he saw a beautiful Norway spruce while driving and asked the owner, Earl Albert, to donate it. Albert agreed, and the tree will soon be on display at Rockefeller Center for the holiday season. Pauze’s dedication to finding and caring for the perfect tree has remained consistent over the years, ensuring that visitors to Rockefeller Center can enjoy a stunning and festive display each year.
