Ribbon cutting ceremony inaugurates grand opening of new Engineering Technology student lounge

The Division of Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University recently celebrated the opening of a new student lounge on the fifth floor of Engineering North with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 8. The lounge was made possible by a generous donation from Human Mode, an Oklahoma City-based robotics company.

The event was attended by Associate Dean John Veenstra, DET faculty, staff, and students, Human Mode CEO William Kerber and his wife, Chi Kerber, and Bob Nickles, a College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology Hall of Fame inductee. Dr. Veenstra expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Kerber and Human Mode for their support in completing the student lounge and for Mr. Kerber’s investment in the program as a member of the industrial advisory board.

Dr. Chulho Yang, interim head of DET, also praised the new lounge as a vibrant space for students to study, collaborate, and relax. William Kerber shared his excitement in helping dedicate the new engineering lounge, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for success.

Kaid Kinzie, OSU Foundation development associate, thanked Human Mode for their generous gift, stating that the new student lounge will provide a welcoming space for DET students to connect and collaborate. The lounge features comfortable seating, study areas, high-speed Wi-Fi, charging stations, collaborative workspaces, and a welcoming environment for students to engage with their peers.

Located in room 503, the student lounge is open during the day and accessible using student ID cards. The space is expected to become a hub for innovation, community, and success at Oklahoma State University.
