Trust was a crucial factor for Mentor senior quarterback Scotty Fox when it came to signing his national letter of intent with the West Virginia Mountaineers. After briefly considering other options when West Virginia fired their coach, Fox ultimately decided to stay with the Mountaineers because he trusted the athletic director and staff to bring in a suitable replacement. Fox had an outstanding senior season, throwing for over 2,800 yards and 34 touchdowns, and running for six touchdowns as well. He plans to graduate early from Mentor and start classes at WVU on Jan. 13. Fox is ranked as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2025 according to Rivals.com.
Other area student-athletes also signed letters of intent on Dec. 4. These include VASJ’s trio of Robert Smith, Bo Jackson, and Brian Kortovich signing to play college football, Perry quarterback Walter Moses signing with Toledo, Perry receiver Luke Sivon signing with Akron, Gilmour tight end Brody Lennon signing with Ohio State, Mentor softball player Maddie Menough signing with Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Mentor lacrosse player Ella Predina signing with Findlay. Fox expressed mixed emotions about leaving his high school team, but is excited to take the next step in his football career. His decision to trust in the West Virginia program despite coaching changes shows his dedication and confidence in his future with the Mountaineers.
