West Virginia’s head football coaching search has been full of speculation and unlikely candidates since firing Neal Brown. Names like Nick Saban and Pat McAfee have been tossed around, but Jimbo Fisher seemed like a more realistic option until recently. However, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, Fisher is not likely to coach at West Virginia.
Despite this, WV Sports Now’s Mike J. Asti believes Fisher would bring a much-needed shake-up to the struggling program. While Fisher’s track record at Texas A&M is not perfect, his previous success at Florida State and his recruiting ability make him an attractive candidate.
Asti also reports that an unnamed Michigan assistant is vying for the head coaching position at WVU, adding another layer of intrigue to the search. With rumors swirling and unlikely candidates showing interest, a resolution does not seem imminent.
As the search continues, Rich Rodriguez, currently coaching at Jacksonville State, may become a more prominent figure in the hiring news cycle. For now, West Virginia fans will have to wait and see how the coaching search unfolds.
