West Virginia’s Tucker DeVries will be sidelined indefinitely due to an upper-body injury, head coach Darian DeVries announced. Tucker, who had started every game this season, was averaging 14.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. DeVries, the son of coach Darian, came to West Virginia from Drake, where he was the back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. He had previously undergone shoulder surgery in the spring.
The team will have to rely on other players to step up in Tucker’s absence as they face upcoming non-conference games before starting Big 12 play. West Virginia will face North Carolina Central on Tuesday night before taking on Kansas on Dec. 31, followed by games against Oklahoma State and Arizona in early January. Coach DeVries expressed confidence in the team’s ability to come together and support Tucker during his recovery. It is currently unknown if his current injury is related to his previous shoulder injury.
