Unsolved Mystery: Economic Development Project in Southern West Virginia Remains in Limbo | Latest Updates on News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has announced that a proposed economic development project involving renewable energy in southern West Virginia will have to wait until the February legislative session for further progress. The project, which could involve a data center in Logan County powered by renewable and fossil fuel energy, has the potential to be a $30 billion investment. However, concerns over timing and newly elected lawmakers taking office prompted Justice to hold off on moving forward with the project.

The draft bill for the proposed project would make changes to the Certified Industrial Business Expansion Development program, allowing for the establishment of high-impact industrial business development districts and encouraging renewable energy generation in industrial facilities. While there was initial consideration of a special session to pass the bill, it was ultimately decided to wait until the regular legislative session in February.

Governor Justice expressed the importance of ensuring that the project will not jeopardize coal mining jobs in the area, emphasizing the need for thorough consideration and participation from all stakeholders. The unnamed company behind the project has been willing to wait for lawmakers to convene in February to address any concerns and move forward with the economic development initiative.
