Buzzfeed sells ‘Hot Ones’ studio in $82.5 million deal

BuzzFeed has announced the sale of First We Feast, the popular food and pop culture entertainment brand known for the “Hot Ones” YouTube show, for $82.5 million in an all-cash deal. The investors in this deal include First We Feast founder Chris Schonberger, “Hot Ones” host Sean Evans, podcast company Crooked Media, YouTubers Rhett and Link’s Mythical Entertainment, and Soros Fund Management, among others. First We Feast will now operate as an independent multiplatform media company, with plans to expand into new areas such as new platforms, live events, and talent acquisition.

First We Feast has 14 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 4 billion views. “Hot Ones” has become a fan favorite for its unique format and Evans’ interviewing style, with guests including Jennifer Lawrence, Shaquille O’Neal, and Billie Eilish. Evans will continue to host “Hot Ones” and take on the role of chief creative officer at First We Feast.

The sale of First We Feast allows BuzzFeed to reduce its debt and focus on its strategic transformation into a tech-enabled media company. The company has removed over $150 million of debt since December 31, 2023. This deal marks the latest step in BuzzFeed’s efforts to position itself for success in the evolving media landscape.
