The West Virginia Department of Human Services, Bureau for Social Services celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of Leaders Thrive program participants. The program, launched in April 2024, aims to strengthen leadership skills among BSS employees to better serve the state’s children and families. Thirty-five employees completed the nine-month training program, which included a graduation ceremony at the Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg.
Kim Ricketts, DoHS Special Consultant to the Secretary for the Bureau for Social Services, emphasized the importance of investing in employees for the future of the state. The program incorporates a leadership assessment to help participants identify their unique leadership styles and navigate workplace dynamics effectively, enabling them to support their teams and provide better care to West Virginia families.
The program was conducted in partnership with Epiphany Consulting, a West Virginia-based company specializing in strategic employee development. Secretary Cynthia Persily highlighted the significance of strong leadership in child welfare services and emphasized that the program is an investment in the workforce and the communities they serve.
