Tracking College Football Coaching Changes: West Virginia Set to Reunite with Rich Rodriguez


The college football coaching carousel is spinning at full speed as the 2024 season winds down. Head coaches and coordinators are making moves across the country, with various changes being announced in recent days.

On December 11, West Virginia is expected to bring back Rich Rodriguez as their head coach, a position he previously held from 2001-07. North Carolina announced the hiring of Bill Belichick, the former head coach of the New England Patriots, as their new head coach.

On December 8, Purdue hired Barry Odom as their new head coach, while Marshall named Tony Gibson as their new head coach.

Other recent coaching changes include Scott Frost returning to UCF as head coach, Tim Albin becoming the new head coach at Charlotte, and Dowell Loggains being hired as the head coach for Appalachian State.

Additionally, FIU announced Willie Simmons as their new head coach, Texas Tech hired Mack Leftwich as their new offensive coordinator, Utah State brought on Bronco Mendenhall as their new head coach, and UMass introduced Joe Harasymiak as their new head coach.

In early December, Nebraska made interim offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen’s position permanent, and Oklahoma hired Ben Arbuckle as their new offensive coordinator. FAU announced the hiring of Zach Kittley as their new head coach, while FSU named Tony White as their new defensive coordinator.

These recent coaching changes have created a buzz in the college football world as teams look to make strategic moves ahead of the upcoming seasons. The coaching carousel is expected to continue spinning as more changes are announced in the weeks to come.
