West Virginia to bring on former Arizona coach, Rich Rodriguez

Former Arizona Wildcats football coach Rich Rodriguez is set to make a return to the West Virginia Mountaineers as their new head coach, as reported by Brett McMurphy of the Action Network. Rodriguez previously coached West Virginia for seven seasons from 2001-07, achieving a 60-26 record and notable wins in the Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl before departing for Michigan.

During his time at Arizona, Rodriguez led the Wildcats to five bowl games, including the Fiesta Bowl, and had intense matchups against the Arizona State Sun Devils. However, he was fired in 2017 amid allegations of running a hostile workplace, which were later dismissed in court.

Following his departure from Arizona, Rodriguez had coaching stints at Ole Miss, Hawaii, and Louisiana Monroe before landing the head coaching job at Jacksonville State. Under his leadership, the Gamecocks moved up to FBS and won the 2024 Conference USA championship game.

Now, Rodriguez’s career has come full circle as he returns to West Virginia to replace Neal Brown, who struggled to lead the team to success in recent years. This move will bring Rodriguez back to familiar territory in the Big 12 conference, where he will face off against his former team in Arizona and the Sun Devils in upcoming seasons.

Fans and analysts are excited to see Rodriguez back at the helm of the Mountaineers and anticipate intense competition in the Big 12 with his return. Stay tuned to @AZSports for further updates on this coaching change.
